Artist Bio

I don’t remember ever not painting. I grew up in a family of artists and fine craftsmen, so painting has always felt like breathing to me. I was raised within a family culture of creative entrepreneurs who possessed astounding imagination. The environment I grew up in was filled with positive, proactive, and progressive coaching—“Go ahead—do it, create it, build it, make it, learn it, try it.” There is incredible power in being raised by those we know have the skills, wisdom, and passion to lead us; by those whose integrity we can proudly trust; and by those who can train us with their joy.

I won my first award for painting in the third grade, and I’ve never stopped creating since. Over the decades, I’ve drawn inspiration from all my creative projects and jobs. Forty years in construction brought textures and forms that now translate into the hands-on, impasto feel of my paintings. Twenty years as a master colorist and hairdresser taught me to blend and layer colors with precision, which flows into the iridescent mosaics and fluid designs in my work.

To find lasting satisfaction across a lifetime, we must learn the full scope of what joy is possible to attain, train in, and maintain. It took time to discover that my deepest joy is carved from the life within my spirit—and that my spirit comes most alive when I write, teach, paint, entrepreneur, and play. I’ve never stopped pushing the boundaries of my creativity, always asking myself: “What haven’t I tried yet? What unusual path can I take to elevate my art?”

Today, I work with acrylic, mica flakes, and metallic acrylic paint on large canvases. My artwork is purely intuitive. I have no idea what I am painting until I am quite a ways into the piece and the scene reveals itself. The reflective colors, fluid strokes, and impasto textures layer together to create depth, height, and breadth—infusing the canvas with joy-filled energy that shifts in intensity as your view moves into and across the surface. - Anne
